    The Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China(ISTIC) was established in October, 1956. It is a national comprehensive information center directly under the Ministry of Science and Technology. Now it has 850 employees, 11 business units, 1 wholly-owned company (in Hong Kong), 3 joint venture companies and 1 stock holding company. Three civil societies use ISIC building as their headquarters. To meet the demands of national economy, science and technology and social development, ISTIC manly carries out business of collection , storage and service of scientific and technological documents, database building, information analysis and research, information service network infrastructure construction, information professionals training and media publishing etc.
  • Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information, Daejon City, South Korea
    KISTI, was established to play a pivotal role in building the national science and technology knowledge information infrastructure. It was founded through the merger of Korea Institute of Industry and Technology Information(KINITI) and Korea Research and Development Information Center(KORDIC) in January, 2001. KISTI is currently under the supervision of the Office of the Prime Minister. KISTI will play a leading role in building the nationwide infrastructure for knowledge and information by linking the high-performance research network with its supercomputers. It will become the uppermost important institution upon which the next generation technologies will grow.
  • National Information Infrastructure Enterprise Promotion Association, Taipei, Taiwan
    Understanding that the promise of electronic commerce won’t be truly realized until suitable catalyst and unbiased mechanisms are in place, Dr. Han-Min Hsia, advisor to the President of ROC and exminister without portfolio in charge of technology policy, established NII Enterprise Promotion Association (NIIA) in 1996. NIIA is the first non-profit organization in Taiwan to promote NII and introduce leading-edge applications in Taiwan. It successfully serves as a trendsetter as well as a bridge between the industry and government to en-courage the development of NII in Taiwan.

    The National Institute of Informatics (NII) was founded in April 2000 as an inter-university research institute organized to conduct comprehensive research on informatics and to develop an advanced infrastructure for disseminating scientific information.
