Every year the Computer and Information Sciences (COIS) Awards Committee has the pleasure of selecting the John P. Russo and William J. Knight Scholarship recipients. COIS faculty congratulate the scholarship recipients and applaud their achievements.
- Purpose: The John P. Russo Fund for Academic Excellence and William J. Knight Scholarship have been established to provide financial support to current undergraduate (B.S. in Computer Science and B.S. in Informatics face-to-face) and graduate (M.S. in AMCS with Computer Science and Data Science focus areas) students majoring in Computer and Information Sciences (COIS) at IU South Bend. The basis for these awards is demonstrated potential for academic excellence in COIS. The awardees will be selected annually by the COIS Awards Committee.

- Awards Ceremony: Awards are typically presented at the CLAS Honors Night during the academic year when the award funds are disbursed, which is held on the Thursday evening before graduation. In addition to the Award Certificate is typically provided by the Department and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the scholarship recipients typically receive a cash award between $500 to $3,000.

Every year the Informatics Awards Committee has the pleasure of selecting the Informatics Scholarship recipients. The criteria for selection of the scholarship winners is primarily based on high school academic achievement. The Informatics faculty congratulate the scholarship recipients and applaud their achievements.
- Purpose: The Informatics scholarship has been established to provide high achieving incoming highschool students majoring in Informatics at IU South Bend with financial assistance in completing their degrees. The Scholarships will be awarded through the Informatics Committee.
- Who can Apply: High achieving high school students who are applying to the Informatics progam
- Deadline: Jan 16, 2018
- Scholarship Amount: A total value of up to $30,000 over four years (Award will cover the actual cost of tuition and fees up to $7,500 annually; renewable up to 4 years.)

- Any incoming on-campus Informatics major who receives IUSB Titan Gold Award will automatically qualify for consideration for an additional $1000 Informatics Gold Award based on availability of funds. The number of awards each year will be decided by the Informatics Awards Committee. The criteria for award and renewal will be same as the IUSB Titan Gold Award. In addition, completion of at least one or more INFO or CSCI course toward their major per semester is required for the award and renewal.

- This award is to encourage and retain academically excellent on-campus Informatics majors.
- Each semester the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences publishes the executive dean's list to recognize students who have demonstrated academic excellence. (see Dean’s List criteria here
- On-campus Informatics majors who achieve the CLAS dean’s list level, will automatically qualify for consideration of an award of $500 based on funding. The number of awards each year will be decided by the Informatics Awards Committee. Preference will be given to students who have not received this award in the immediate past.
- Student must be enrolled in at least one on campus INFO or CSCI course toward their major during the semester in which they appear in the dean’s list.
- Applicable awards will apply toward tuition and fees for the following semester.

- This award is to promote and recognize the spirit of service in our on-campus Informatics majors at IU South Bend. Informatics Awards committee will select up to two award recipients per year.
- Candidates for this award are Informatics majors nominated either by an IU South Bend faculty, or a member of the community familiar with the student’s service in the university or the community. The nomination letter should document the duration, scope, and impact of the service on the community and/or the campus.
- Students nominated for this award must maintain 2.0 GPA and be progressing toward their degree in Informatics by taking at least one INFO or CS course during the semester they are being evaluated for the award.
- Applicable awards will apply toward tuition and fees for the following semester.
- This is a onetime award.

- This award is available to sophomores and juniors in the on-campus Informatics program who have distinguished themselves academically.
- This award can be applied toward tuition and fees for the subsequent two semesters (up to $3800 per semester)
- As a Research Fellow, award recipients will work with one or more INFO or CS faculty on a research project appropriate to their academic development. Students who receive Research Fellowship must submit and attempt to publish their results in one or more venues such as local and regional undergraduate research journals, undergraduate conferences, etc. Failure to engage in these activities will result in cancellation of the award for the second semester.
- Preference will be given to new research fellows and faculty mentors
- Students are nominated by INFO or CS faculty for this award. Students must demonstrate potential for academic excellence in Informatics as determined by the Committee. Applicants must submit an essay describing their academic and career goals, professional philosophy, special interests, and supporting examples related to research. Student must have minimum of 3.2 GPA and maintain satisfactory academic progress toward their degree by taking at least one INFO or CSCI course during the semester they are being evaluated for the award.
- Students must maintain a full-time status (12 or more credits), and minimum GPA of 3.0 and take at least one INFO or CSCI course during the award period and make satisfactory academic progress towards completing the Informatics degree.

- This award is available to sophomores and juniors in the on-campus Informatics program who have distinguished themselves academically.
- This award can be applied toward tuition and fees for the subsequent two semesters (up to $3800 per semester)
- As a Teaching Fellow, award recipients will work with one or more INFO or CS faculty (up to 10 hours per week) to mentor students in class or computer laboratories, and other activities such as preparing and delivering supervised lecture each semester, and conduct peer mentoring session on study habits, choosing courses, etc. Failure to engage in these activities will result in cancellation of the award for the second semester.
- Preference will be given to new teaching fellows and faculty mentors
- Students are nominated by INFO or CS faculty for this award. Students must demonstrate potential for academic excellence in Informatics as determined by the Committee. Applicants must submit an essay describing their academic and career goals, professional philosophy, special interests, and supporting examples related to teaching or mentoring. Student must have minimum of 3.2 GPA and maintain satisfactory academic progress toward their degree by taking at least one INFO or CSCI course during the semester they are being evaluated for the award.
- Students must maintain a full-time status (12 or more credits), and minimum GPA of 3.0 and take at least one INFO or CSCI course during the award period and make satisfactory academic progress towards completing the Informatics degree.
